17/08/2010: There is a one off room change for the first talk of the new season on 8 September 7.30pm ‘Backyard Astronomers & Deep Sky Imaging’ by Brian Lynn, at The University of Salford. It will take place on the 8th floor in room room 822. We are back to room 115 for October.
12/07/2010: Salford Astronomical Society’s honorary president, Dr Allan Chapman will be presented with a Honorary Doctorate of Science (D Sc.) at the Lowery centre in Salford at 16:30 on Wednesday 14 July 2010 by the University of Salford.
Dr Allan Chapman was born in Salford and receives this award in recognition of his work in the history of science, medicine and especially astronomy. He is also the honorary president for the Society for the History of Astronomy.
He was a member of the Salford Astronomical Society for many of its early years. His annual Christmas lecture is a popular and in some ways the highlight of the SAS’s annual lecture program. The warmest congratulations to Allan and Rachael from everyone at Salford Astronomical Society for this award.
